I have often wondered that the longing for a desire which is yet to be fulfilled acts like firewood for my soul, dry, crackling, and full of energy. And, truth be told, I secretly wish it never gets fulfilled. Because the moment my wishful thinking takes real form, the firewood gets extinguished, leaving behind nothing but ash.
Once a desire is fulfilled, it’s like a party after everyone’s gone home, nothing special left to look at but empty plates and a deflated balloon. What truly keeps life interesting is the chase for what we haven’t yet experienced or achieved.
As a child, I remember the sheer craze I had to own my first bicycle, once I had it, it felt like the world belonged to me and I am the HERO on two wheels. But soon after experiencing it everything felt… normal. Later, I jumped onto my next big thrill: riding a motorcycle as a teenager. And sure enough, once I mastered it, the charm wore off, like soda left open overnight.
Even the first time you catch feelings for someone, oh, that magical, fluttery phase, somehow feels ordinary over the period of time once you “get” it. Because the state of satisfaction when you finally have what you desire is also, ironically, the death of the desire itself.
Nothing really feels special in this world once you actually have it.
And yet, the one longing that never truly fades is that ultimate desire which allows you to reconnect with yourself. Finding the real you. To rediscover who you really are after everything else stops feeling magical.
Those rare, blessed days when you realize that desires are just illusions, same like mirages on a hot day.
Those are the blessed days when you finally feel you’re meant for something greater. And that “something greater” isn’t a shiny toy, a new milestone, or a grand romance. It’s simply the quiet, calm state of mind where there’s no rush, no chase just you, walking your own path, evolving your soul toward a journey that remains unseen.
Let this mystery stay a mystery, Jashan as the mystery itself is the fuel that keeps your soul moving, like a curious cat that refuses to stop exploring.
